More than 100 years after the tragic sinking of the RMS Titanic, you can immerse yourself in the history and remembrance of the infamous disaster on this fascinating and enlightening tour in Halifax, which begins in the morning at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

From here, your knowledgeable local guide will lead you several Titanic-related sites while telling the story of the tragedy. During its maiden voyage on April 15, 1912, the luxury ship departed from Southampton, England on its way to New York City. Passengers on board included some of the wealthiest people in the world, as well as hundreds of immigrants seeking a new life in North America. After accidentally crashing into an iceberg, the ship -- touted as 'unsinkable' by its architects -- sank in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Arrive at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, where 121 victims were buried after a rescue vessel was sent to the shipwreck from Halifax to recover bodies. You’ll be in disbelief by the story of the ship’s unlikely demise, and you’ll learn what really happened that fateful night that caused the deaths of more than 1,500 people in one of the deadliest maritime disasters of all time. You’ll also learn why Halifax is so intricately tied with the story of the Titanic – it was the closest city to the ship at the time of its sinking.

Other Titanic-related sites you’ll visit include morgues and churches were services were held, as well as locales from the 1997 movie Titanic. End your tour with a visit to the famed Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (admission included), which houses a fascinating exhibit on the disaster. Browse an impressive collection of archival records and artifacts from the vessel including a wooden post from the famous Grand Staircase, articles of clothing and the only intact Titanic deck chair recovered from the wreck.
