Meet your professional guide in the Buda Castle District to begin your trip back to communist Hungary. As you walk, your guide will tell you about the events that led to WWII and the installation of a communist government.

Visit Fisherman’s Bastion, a turreted, Gothic-style terrace on Castle Hill, near Matthias Church. This popular attraction offers wonderful views of the city and the Danube River – make sure your camera is fully charged! Walk up the towers and admire the views while you hear about the bastion’s history, which dates back to 1899.

Next, follow your guide through inner Pest to see historical sights like Freedom Square and the statue of Imre Nagy, the leader of the 1956 uprising. You'll also see old shrapnel marks on the buildings near Parliament.

Your tour ends at the local tour operator’s office, where you’ll enjoy a private exhibition of communist-era life. Enter the exhibition room, set up like a communist flat, and learn about life during socialism and communism. See authentic relics like passports, party member books, medals, awards and more.

Throughout your tour, you’ll receive an overall view of how communism started, how Big Brother told Hungarians what to do and what not to do, and what life was like behind the Iron Curtain. Learn interesting details like how children were raised, how and where families could travel, how long it took to get a passport, and other fascinating experiences from black markets to banana lines.
