Take a day trip from Beijing to Chuandixia Village, a Ming Dynasty settlement famous for its well-preserved courtyard homes. Climb the steep stairs and walk through the stone-paved lanes to see the historic architecture that will take you back to ancient China. You’ll also get to see the rural countryside and enjoy a homemade meal prepared by locals.

Enjoy a relaxing day trip outside of bustling Beijing. Your private guide will pick you up from your hotel in Beijing and drive you to Chuandixia Village, located 55 miles (90 km) west of Beijing. Chuandixia was founded during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD) and is known for its hundreds of well-preserved homes that date from both the Ming Dynasty and Qing-Dynasty (1644-1911 AD). The historic courtyard houses are built on the side of the hill, surrounded by mountains, canyons and lush forests. Filled with pine and cypress trees, the village is a picturesque place for a walk. Climb up the stairs and walk along the stone-paved lanes to visit the houses, and amble around the terraced orchards and vegetable fields.

You can also visit the local temples and read the Maoist slogans inscribed on the walls of the houses. See the revolutionary red writings, such as “Long Live Mao Zedong” and “Proletariats of the World Unite”. Learn about the local way of life from friendly villagers, who will prepare for you a delicious homemade lunch.
