Poland is a large country and a relative "new" one (from 966 AD), but suffering as big as only few others in Europe. Subject to continuous assertion and various "bosses" occasionally: Prussia, Austria, Russia, Germany, the Soviet Union, all passed and got. Especially the Nazis and the Soviets, they left many wounds in the historical memory of the locals.
