Please note: The sights and attractions mentioned below are to give you an idea of the variety of things to do in Rome and Florence, but they are only an example and are not included; all entrance fees, tours and activities are at your own expense.

Days 1 and 2: Venice – Rome
In the morning, head to Venice Santa Lucia Station and board your train for the trip to Rome! After enjoying the sights of the Italian countryside from your chosen first- or second-class train carriage, arrive in Italy’s charismatic capital city, where you’ll spend the next two nights. When you’ve checked in to your Rome hotel, the rest of the two days are yours to do whatever you wish!

Brash and bold, but oh-so-beautiful, Rome is a sightseer’s delight. Architectural heirlooms litter the city and there are treasures to be found around every corner. Check out Vatican City, home of the pope, or see the iconic Colosseum where brutal gladiator battles were once fought. Admire Bernini’s lavish fountains in the restaurant-strung square that is Piazza Navona, or find your way to Trevi Fountain, buried in a myriad of Rome’s bustling streets.

Day 3: Rome – Florence
After two days in the Eternal City, leave your hotel and make your way to Rome Termini for your train ride north to Florence, Italy’s second city. Steeped in art and history, this charming city is evocative of everything that’s romantic about the country. Several of the world’s greatest artistic treasures can be found here, and its gorgeous architecture and glamorous people attest to its status as Italy’s most beautiful city.

Check in at your Florence hotel, and then head out to see the sights independently. Perhaps visit Accademia Gallery to see Michelangelo’s David sculpture, or visit Florence Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria dei Fiori) to climb up Brunelleschi’s Dome. Relax in Boboli Gardens, stroll through bohemian Oltrarno or soak up the views from Piazza Michelangelo.

Day 4: Florence – Venice
Spend the day at leisure and in the evening, leave Florence Santa Maria Novella Station and return to Venice by train, where your 4-day trip ends.
