Explore the stunning 7,000-piece Army of Terracotta Warriors, and view Emperor Qin’s extensive burial collection.

Experience the best of Xi’an on this small-group tour, where you’ll learn about Xi’an’s rich history and enjoy its delicious cuisine.

Meet your guide in the heart of Xi’an, and visit one of the busy morning produce markets. Soak in the lively atmosphere as you browse the colorful displays of vegetables, fruits, poultry and spices. See what locals stock up on and learn about the key ingredients used in Chinese cooking. While you’re at the market, enjoy a delicious traditional Xi’an breakfast (own expense); purchase fresh soy milk, steamed pork dumplings and green-onion pancakes for a tasty start to the day.

After strolling through the market, head over to the famous Terracotta Warriors, a collection of terracotta statues that depict the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. One of the great archeological discoveries of the 20th century, the collection is made up of 7,000 terracotta figures of warriors and horses in battle formation. The soldiers are arranged in three rows of 210 crossbow-bearers. Close behind are armored soldiers holding spears, daggers and long-shaft weapons. The stunning collection of life-sized chariots, horses and warriors are buried to protect the emperor in his afterlife, part of the ancient Chinese funeral tradition.

You can walk around the Army of Terracotta Warriors, taking the time to explore the intricate collection. Learn about the construction of the figures and the historical significance of the site before heading to the nearby town of Lintong for a tasty lunch. Feast on local specialties, such as roujiamo (savory cumin lamb burgers) or wide, hand-pulled soup noodles. After lunch, your tour concludes at the Bell Tower where you will be free to explore the city on your own.
